On April 1, 2025, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) began issuing reduction in force (RIF) notices to over 10,000 employees, including vital personnel in addiction recovery, opioid data collection, and mental health services. The cuts impact key agencies like the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and the CDC.
Entire offices within the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention and SAMHSA's opioid data division were eliminated. As contract management staff were let go, federal support for vulnerable populations suffering from opioid use disorder (OUD) now faces serious disruption. Many states rely on SAMHSA funding to run opioid treatment programs (OTP), and the loss of oversight and technical support is expected to delay services and harm patient outcomes.
With federal infrastructure weakened, communities across Colorado must rely more heavily on local providers to fill the gap. That’s where Denver Recovery Group comes in.
